Vision with ChatGPT and Claude
The MCP connector lets ChatGPT or Claude query the properties of models your account can access in the authorized workspace. Queries do not change models or geometry. Publishing a dashboard is a separate write action that must follow your request.
Connect your account
Section titled “Connect your account”Use a custom connection with this address:
https://mcp.construchainglobal.com/mcpFollow the ChatGPT or Claude guide. Sign in with your ConstruChain account and review the authorization; this connection does not require an API key. Confirm the workspace on the authorization screen. Custom connection availability depends on your AI platform plan and settings. Listings in public connector directories are subject to approval.
You need an active subscription or trial and processed properties for the selected model. Models in other workspaces or projects you cannot access are unavailable through this connection.
Available tools
Section titled “Available tools”| Tool | Purpose | Changes data? |
|---|---|---|
List BIM Models (list_models) |
Lists models available for analysis, with their names and projects. | No |
Get Model Schema (get_model_schema) |
Shows the properties and fields available in the selected model. | No |
Query Model Properties (query_model) |
Queries one model’s properties and calculates summaries. | No |
Publish Dashboard (publish_dashboard) |
Creates an HTML dashboard in Vision or replaces an existing dashboard’s content. | Yes |
Query before calculating
Section titled “Query before calculating”Start with the model list and choose a result. Then inspect its fields; property names, units and formats can vary across disciplines and imports.
List the models available in Vision. For the model I choose, inspect the properties before doing any calculations.
Count elements by class or category. Count each element once, even if it has several properties. Report which field you used.
If volume is available, sum it by material. Check values and units before adding them. Report elements with missing volume separately and do not treat missing values as zero.
The assistant prepares the read query. Numeric property values may be stored as text and must be interpreted before calculations. If the answer reaches a result limit, request a grouped summary or a narrower filter. A truncated response does not represent the complete dataset.
Publish with explicit visibility
Section titled “Publish with explicit visibility”Review the analysis and choose who may see it before requesting publish_dashboard.
| Visibility | Who can open it |
|---|---|
Workspace (workspace, default) |
Signed-in people with the required workspace permissions and, when linked, project access. |
Members (members) |
Restricted access, with sharing managed in Vision and subject to workspace and project permissions. Check who has access in Share & permissions. |
Public (public) |
Anyone with the link can view the dashboard and the data published in it without signing in. |
“Private” means the content is not publicly available. A dashboard with workspace access can be viewed by other authorized people; access is not exclusive to its creator. The members mode requires a project link and does not configure a list of people through MCP.
To keep content within the workspace:
Publish a dashboard with the summaries we just checked, using workspace visibility. Include units and missing fields and return the link to open it in Vision.
To share publicly, ask explicitly and first review the content that will be exposed:
Publish a public dashboard containing only these aggregated indicators I approved. Do not include personal names, element identifiers or confidential data. Return the public link.
Published charts are a snapshot of the queried data. To refresh that snapshot, request a new query and an update to the existing dashboard. Updating preserves its address and visibility, so a public dashboard remains public. The assistant can also validate content before publishing without creating or replacing a dashboard.
Dashboards with a linked 3D view require a compatible Autodesk reference. For native IFC, request a standalone dashboard without a linked 3D viewer. A public dashboard does not automatically expose the 3D model; public viewer access has a separate control in Vision.
When something fails
Section titled “When something fails”| Situation | Next action |
|---|---|
| Model missing or data unavailable | Confirm the workspace, project access and property processing in Vision. List the models again. |
| Property not found | Request another field inspection and use the returned name. If the field does not exist, report its absence. |
| Truncated response | Request grouping and filters instead of trying to retrieve every row. |
| Query capacity busy or too many requests | Wait for the interval given in the response and retry. |
| Subscription or trial expired | Check your plan status in Vision. |
| Dashboard limit reached | Check your plan’s dashboard usage and limit in Vision before publishing another dashboard. |
| Dashboard unavailable | Check whether it was removed, whether your account has access and whether the link matches its current visibility. |
Query results are sent to the connected AI session. Use only data you are allowed to share with that platform and keep credentials and authorization links out of conversations. For connection or authorization problems, see the help guide.
