Models and IFC

Vision analyses use the properties of the processed model in the selected project. Before comparing quantities or publishing a dashboard, check the workspace, project, model name and available import.

Source How to make the data available
Autodesk integration Select the file and version in the integration, choose the destination project and confirm which properties to import. Wait for the import to finish.
Native IFC upload Send the file to a project in a workspace where this option is enabled. Wait for conversion and property availability.

In an Autodesk import, your property selection affects what can be queried later. Do not assume that a property omitted from the import is available for analysis.

Native IFC upload does not require Autodesk to extract properties. It is enabled per workspace, and uploading requires owner or editor permissions. If the upload option is missing, check the workspace and your access, then use the help guide to check availability.

  1. Open Vision in the workspace you want to use.
  2. In the project, open the IFC upload option.
  3. Check the destination project in the upload dialog.
  4. Choose or drop one non-empty .ifc file, up to 256 MiB.
  5. Start the upload and follow the model’s status in the project.

The original file is sent to private storage. Finishing the transfer queues the model; it does not confirm that its properties are ready to query.

Displayed status Meaning and action
Uploading The file is still being transferred. Wait for the transfer to finish.
Queued The upload has finished and the model is waiting for processing.
Processing Processing is in progress.
Awaiting release approval The model is waiting for release. Contact support if it remains in this state.
Imported The import has finished. Check the available properties through MCP.
Error A step failed. Read the displayed message before retrying.
Cancelled The upload or processing was cancelled. Check the current state before starting another upload.

A model can appear in the list while its properties are still unavailable to query. Confirm the fields with get_model_schema; if the connector reports missing data, check processing in Vision instead of inventing results.

An IFC can contain element classes, names and identifiers, property sets and quantity sets. Its content depends on the source export. Volume, area and material are not guaranteed for every element.

List the available IFC models and wait for my choice. For the selected model, show the available element classes, properties and quantities.

Count elements by IFC class. If area or volume is available, show the units before adding values. Report elements with missing quantities separately.

Use each element’s identity to avoid counting the same object several times because it has several properties. Do not combine quantities with different units or turn missing values into zero.

Publish a standalone dashboard of this IFC analysis with workspace access and no linked 3D viewer. Show the units, fields used and limitations.

Linking a 3D view to an MCP dashboard requires a model with a compatible Autodesk reference. Native IFC properties can supply charts and indicators in a standalone dashboard. See Vision with ChatGPT and Claude to choose visibility and refresh published data.

  • File rejected: check the .ifc extension, whether the file is empty, the 256 MiB limit and the filename. If the name is rejected, use a shorter name.
  • Session expired: sign in again before retrying the upload.
  • Access or quota issue: confirm the destination project, your permissions and plan limits.
  • Transfer interrupted: use Retry to try resuming. If cancellation was not confirmed, refresh the page and check the status before uploading again.
  • Verification failed: follow the upload dialog’s guidance. If the problem persists, send support the message with confidential data removed.
